Are you suitable for refractive laser treatment?
(Techniques: LASIK, TransPRK / PRK)
Laser treatments are safe and proven effective, but not suitable for everyone. The following criteria are assessed:
1. General criteria
- Age: from 18 years (ideally between 20 and 55 years).
There is no strict maximum age, but with early cataract it is better to treat the cataract directly rather than doing a laser treatment first. - Stable correction: no change > 0.50 D in the past year

- Myopie: –1 tot –10 D
- Hypermetropie: +1 tot +5 D
- Astigmatisme: tot ± 5 D
- Pregnancy / breastfeeding: contraindicated; wait 3 months after stopping breastfeeding
2. Ocular health evaluated during the Quick Scan
- Sufficiently thick corneal layer, normal topography (no keratoconus)
- No progressive or high-risk retinal abnormalities
- No severe dry-eye problems
3. Medical history requiring caution or contraindication
- Poorly controlled autoimmune diseases
- Poorly regulated diabetes
- Treatment with isotretinoin or high doses of corticosteroids
- History of herpetic keratitis
- Immunosuppression
4. Practical conditions before the examinations
- Stopping soft lenses: 2 to 3 days beforehand
- Stopping hard lenses: 1 to 2 weeks beforehand

- Ze kan de effecten ervan wel vaak gedurende een tiental jaren compenseren
- Being willing to follow postoperative care (prescribed drops for about one month)
